New York City’s crime continues to rise and is no laughing matter, but comedian John Mulaney was quick to mock mayor Eric Adams about his questionable crackdown on crime. Mulaney took the stage at the Robin Hood benefit on Monday night to skewer Adams after the mayor defended the arrest of a woman selling mangoes in a Brooklyn subway station.
He blasted Adams, who was SITTING IN THE AUDIENCE, for targeting low-level offenses while major crimes like assault and burglary continue to surge. Earlier that day, Adams said the NYPD was right to cuff and search the mango seller because street vending could lead to more nefarious offenses. Adams said that, “You just can’t do that. Next day, it’s propane tanks being used on the subway system. The next day, it’s barbecuing on the subway system.”

Mulaney was quick to mock this decision saying, “Mayor Adams, what are you talking about? What is a subway barbecue, and why do you hate them so much?” Mulaney continued, “No guns, no crime, no barbecues on the subway! Better schools, better transportation, no more volleyball games on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway!”
Adams is a former cop who claimed that he would be tough on crime before being elected last year, however, major crimes have continued to soar and he has been widely criticized for his failure.
Former mayor Rudy Giuliani called him the worst politician in America, “So far, he’s the biggest failure of a new mayor in America. He’s the worst failure of any new first-year mayor in New York City in my lifetime.”
Mulaney has lived in New York the majority of his life and has several jokes in his routines about the city, so it’s no surprise that he would be upset with Adams with the rest of the citizens.
