It looks like this athlete needs more than just a time-out. There’s a new report that says USA women’s soccer star Hope Solo has been arrested for driving under the influence and child abuse. Yes, it looks just as ugly as it sounds. Here’s what you need to know.
Reports say Solo’s arrest happened after cops took her into custody in the parking lot of a Walmart in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Cops say she was booked for impaired driving (DWI), resisting arrest, and misdemeanor child abuse. According to reports, cops said her two children were in the car when authorities pulled her over.

Solo later Tweeted a statement from her attorney, Rich Nichols, who said, “On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.”
She has been released from jail and has a court date of June 28, the report indicated. As many fans can recall, Solo was dismissed from the national team following the 2016 Olympics in Brazil after calling the Swedish team “cowards” for taking a defensive stance against the defending gold medalists, ending a laudable playing career that was also marred by controversy.
This is not Solo’s first run-in with the law. In 2014 she was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault against two family members. While the charges were initially dropped in 2015, prosecutors had them reinstated.
