Bill Murray is now being accused of inappropriate behavior on the set of his new movie, Being Mortal. The 71-year-old actor is starring in Aziz Ansari film and was reported this week with a complaint.
Searchlight Pictures is now doing an investigation on what happened and the film’s production has been paused due to this incident. There has yet to be a full statement on the claims against Murray, but we do have a little bit of information.
The Studio Halts Production
Although there have been no reps to comment for Murray or Ansari, the studio did report that it had halted all production at the time. The film crew did receive an email on Wednesday that read, “We know you are all concerned about the recent delays in production and want to give you an update. Late last week, we were made aware of a complaint, and we immediately looked into it. After reviewing the circumstances, it has been decided that production cannot continue at this time.”
Bill Murray Accused of Being Inappropriate on Set
The email went on, “We are truly grateful to all of you for everything you’ve put into this project. Our hope is to resume production and are working with Aziz and Youree to figure out that timing. Production will be in touch with you to share details on the wrap, and we will let you know as soon as we have more information to share.”
Ansari was not part of the complaint and this is his directorial debut. The cast of the film also includes Seth Rogan and Keke Palmer. The movie is based on a book by Atul Gawande from 2014 called Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End.
The book is about hospice and end-of-life care and explores the humorous sides of it, as well as some of the not so fun sides. The production of the film began on March 28, so it was a bit of a surprise when the cast and crew received these emails.
This is not the first time that Murray has been accused of this type of behavior. Back in 2000, Lucy Lui told fans that he berated her on the set of Charlie’s Angels. She said then, “Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it. So, yes, I stoodup for myself, and I don’t regret it.”
We will continue to monitor this story for any changes.
