Jim Carrey has been another voice that has come out to comment on the slap heard ’round the world. After Hollywood gave Will Smith a standing ovation moments after slapping Chris Rock in the face, Carrey says the entire thing is disgraceful and tore into Will and everyone who cheered him on.
After slapping Chris, Will won his first Oscar and gave a speech that touched on his work on ‘King Richard’ but also addressed the slap that happened just before, apologizing to everyone seemingly except Chris Rock.
While speaking with CBS’s Gayle King, Carry called the Academy and attendees spineless and showed how stars often preach one thing but demonstrate another.
Jim Carrey Thinks It’s Disgraceful That Will Smith Slapped Chris Rock
That’s not even the bulk of it. Carrey also revealed that if he were Chris, he would sue Will. He called the entire thing sickening and that it overshadowed the entire ceremony and everyone else who won an award that night. Jim continued to point out that there seemed to be something deeper that was bothering Will beyond the dumb joke about his wife and it appears most agree.
Will finally apologized to Chris on social media, and it appears the two still have not spoken together personally.
The Academy announced they’ve launched an investigation and plan to convene a Board of Governor’s to determine what Will Smith’s punishment will be for walking on stage and slapping the comedian.
