Taylor Hawkins, long time drummer for the Foo Fighters was found dead in a hotel room in Bogota while the band was on tour. It has been confirmed the death was drug related with 10 different drugs found in the rocker’s system.
Hotel staff called medics after Hawkins asked them to do so after reportedly suffering chest pains.

An early statement, published in a number of Colombian newspapers read, “The cause of death has yet to be established. According to those close to him, the death could be related to the consumption of drugs.”
Once voted “Best Rock Drummer” by the British drumming magazine Rhythm, Hawkins has been open about his past drug addiction and it seems it was the path to his ultimate demise. Colombian police have said that cocaine and hallucinogens were found in Hawkins’ hotel room as well as in his system.
The Foo Fighters released their statement late Friday night confirming the 50 year old’s shock passing.
“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.”
The twitter post continued, “Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”
The band are on the South American leg of their world tour after wowing fans in Australia. Their next stop was supposed to be Lollapalooza in Sao Paulo, Brazil before the band were jetting back home to the USA.
Hawkins joined the Foo Fighters in 1997 and have recorded 8 studio albums with the Dave Grohl-led mega band. Hawkins and Grohl always displayed their amazing rapport on stage, with Grohl often taking to the drums (he was the original drummer of Nirvana before moving to guitar and singing for the Foo Fighters) while Hawkins would take over lead vocals.
The music industry has come out to leave tribute to the rocker with artists like Mick Jagger, Axl Rose, Liam Gallagher and Ozzy Osbourne all leaving condolences on social media.
Hawkins is survived by his wife of 17 years Alison and two teenaged children, Oliver, 16 and Annabelle 13.
