The news just seems to be getting worse by the day. While there’s no denying that the fighting and the bloodshed in Ukraine is far from over, there’s a new report that says two Fox News journalists were killed in Ukraine this week. One was a veteran videographer and the other was a 24-year-old Ukrainian journalist. Both were killed with their vehicle came under fire outside of the country’s capital of Kyiv. Here’s what you need to know.
Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, and Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova both died when they were traveling with Fox News reporter Benjamin Hall, who remains hospitalized.

Both deaths were announced by Fox News Media chief executive Suzanne Scott, who said the team’s vehicle came under fire as they were reporting. “Today is a heartbreaking day for Fox News Media and for all journalists risking their lives to deliver the news,” the network’s CEO said in a staff memo.
What’s more, Scott remembered Zakrzewski as a journalist who was “profoundly committed to telling the story and his bravery, professionalism and work ethic were renowned among journalists at every media outlet.”
“The truth is the target,” Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense said Tuesday, commenting on the attack of journalists in the Fox News crew.
“Pierre was a constant in all of our international coverage,” Jay Wallace, the president of Fox News, wrote in the memo. “I, like countless others, always felt an extra sense of reassurance when arriving on the scene and seeing him with camera in hand. The legacy of his positive spirit, boundless energy, and eye for the story will carry on.”
If that weren’t enough, over the weekend, documentary filmmaker Brent Renaud, another veteran of covering war zones, died when Russian forces opened fire on his vehicle in Irpin, also outside of Kyiv.
The director-general of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Audrey Azoulay, on Tuesday condemned the attack that led to the journalists’ deaths. “Journalists have a critical role in providing information during a conflict, and should never be targeted,” she wrote. “I call for the respect of international humanitarian standards, to ensure that journalists and media workers are protected.”
