Britney Spears seems to have inspired another Hollywood starlet and now Amanda Bynes is seeking to end her conservatorship.

It has been 9 years since the now 35-year-old star — who once hosted her own live-action sketch comedy and variety show — was placed under conservatorship. Now, according to her lawyers, the Hairspray star “wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.”

Bynes’s mother Lynn was granted a years’ temporary conservatorship over her daughter back in August 2013 after the Easy A actress was placed on a 72 hour involuntary psychiatric hold. It was deemed Bynes was a danger to herself after she set fire to another person’s driveway.

Earlier that same month, Bynes appeared in a New York courtroom wearing an aqua-colored wig as she faced charges of reckless endangerment and attempted tampering with physical evidence.

Lynn regained conservatorship in 2014 after the temporary hold ran its course.

In September 2021, a ‘status report’ in regards to Bynes’ mental health was filed in a California court and again it was approved that Bynes’ mother continue to be in charge of the conservatorship.

While the  next report isn’t due until January of 2023, Bynes has decided she now feels well enough to be in charge of her own life and finances.

Bynes’ lawyer agrees, stating the actress was “doing great”, adding that “She lives by the beach, attends school and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes.”

The former Nickelodeon child star was engaged, announcing the happy news on Valentine’s Day, 2020. Bynes met her fiancé, Paul Michael, at her former sober living home in late 2019. The engagement was called off after only three weeks.

Now, according to her lawyer, his single client is working on getting a degree from California’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising after graduating with her associate’s degree in 2019.

It will be interesting to see if Bynes garners the same support as Britney did, though it has been said the big difference between the two stars is that Bynes’ parents also want the conservatorship to end after seeing how well their daughter is coping with her bipolar disorder and sober living.
