‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers reveal that throughout the three seasons of Welcome to Plathville, it’s always been hallmarked by Kim and Barry’s really, almost overbearingly conservative, beliefs and about how, at least to hear Ethan and Olivia tell it, try to dictate their life beyond what should be okay.
However in the latest episode Kim and Barry were saying… quite the opposite. They said that since Ethan and Olivia were not under their roof anymore that they were okay with them drinking alcohol and getting tattoos and basically living their lives but they just wanted the same respect out of them.
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Something isn’t quite adding up.
Ethan and Olivia said that when they first got married that Kim was all up in their business and basically treated their wedding and by extension, their married life, as if it were her own and that was the problem. Olivia didn’t want to be led, she wanted to have some autonomy and Kim wasn’t allowing of that.
Now Kim and Barry want to step back and say that they want Ethan and Olivia to understand that they’re not trying to control them but that they just want mutual respect? Since when were Ethan and Olivia disrespectful? It’s not like they were coming in after weekend benders and puking all over the floor or anything.
Some in the fandom have speculated that this tolerance that Kim and Barry are putting forth is purely performative and that they’re just trying to switch up the narrative after recieving so much backlash last year from the online fandom.
No doubt Kim did receive a lot of hate, even in her circles, because 2020 was the year that everyone magically had time to sit down and watch these types of shows during quarantine, and now that the world was paying attention she probably found herself no longer in her comfortable conservative echo chamber.
Whatever the case, we’re not entirely buying the whole ‘tolerant Plath parents’ thing, sure hindsight is 20/20 and maybe Kim and Barry are indeed seeing the error of their ways, at least somewhat. But is all of this sudden tolerance purely performative for the cameras or are they like this off-screen as well? I guess we’ll see. Stay tuned!!!
