‘Sex and the City’star Willie Garson has died after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Best known for his role as Carrie Bradshaw’s gay best friend, Stanford Blatch in the outrageously popular Sex and the City franchise, 57 year old Garson was filming the reboot “And Just Like That…” up until his death.
Recently Garson was photographed on the New York set of the spinoff filming scenes with Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) and Mario Cantone, who portrayed Stanford’s nemesis turned husband Anthony Marentino.

Aside from his role in Sex and the City, Garson’s prolific career included 5 years on White Collar as con man Mozzie along with appearances on many, many supremely popular television shows throughout the last four decades including Cheers, Family Ties, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Mad About You, Melrose Place, CSI, Friends, Wizards of Waverly Place, Two and a Half Men, Magnum PI and Hawaii 5.0. reboots and recently lent his voice to Big Mouth (to name but a few of his credits)
An outpouring of grief and tributes to the actor have appeared online with Cantone writing on Twitter
“I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner. I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with Sadness,” Cantone wrote. “Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods sweet Willie. Rest …I love you.”
And Just Like That co-star Cynthia Nixon wrote
“So deeply, deeply sad we have lost Willie. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional- always. My heart goes out to his son, Nathen Garson. Nathen, I hope you know how much he loved you and how proud he was to be your dad.”
And ex-Sex and the City Co-Star Kim Cattral tweeted:
“Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie.”
Garson’s 20 year old son, Nathen shared a sweet but sad tribute to his father on Instagram after Garson’s Tuesday death saying his dad is “the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known.”
“I love you so much papa. Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much. I’m so proud of you.”
Nathen shared several photos and videos of his late father, hamming it up and continued the caption with
“I will always love you, but I think it’s time for you to go on an adventure of your own. You’ll always be with me. Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now. You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared you’re love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it ❤️?”
Nathen was reportedly with his father hen he lost his fight with cancer on Tuesday afternoon.
