Britney Spears could be about to be free from her father, Jamie Spears, after the latter has reportedly requested that he end his role as a conservator over his daughter’s estate.
Jamie Spears Is Set To Step Down As Britney Spears’ Conservator
The duo have been involved in a legal battle for some time. Britney, for her part, has maintained that she is ready to lead an independent life. Jamie, in contrast, has stressed that he was only trying to protect his daughter from people taking advantage.
But it seems that this was not true, as Britney came out and compared her treatment as akin to ‘trafficking.’ And now that conservatorship, which has been ongoing since 2008, could be about to end.
According to the court documents, the petition states the following: “[Britney] is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required to such an extent that grounds for the establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist.”
On further reading, there is more positive news for Britney. The petition does not require Britney to undergo a psychiatric assessment to determine whether she is ready to be in control of her life.
That should go on to speed up the process and make the transition a whole lot easier. This move is bound to win Jamie some fans over. For far too long, he had been accused of taking advantage of Britney.
At one point, it was claimed that he was receiving $16,000 a month in order to carry out his duties. But the rise of the ‘Free Britney’ movement has led to calls for him to step aside. And ultimately, he had to do what was best for his daughter.
Further court documents confirmed as much: “Even as Mr Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks; he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.”
This is huge news for Britney and something that her fans have been waiting for. There is still some way to go, but if things carry on as planned, then Britney will finally be free to live the life that she has so desperately wanted to do.
