It looks like the Obamas are more #TeamCambridge than Sussex Squad. At least, that’s what one British tabloid site is suggesting, as there’s a new report that says one of the reasons why Barack Obama might have left off Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from his 60th birthday bash last week is because the Obamas want to make clear that their alliance is more with Prince William than with the Sussexes. Ouch. Here’s what you need to know.
According to Britain’s Mirror, royal insiders believe that the Sussexes are not as close with the Obamas as they’d like the world to believe. Royal expert Angela Levin suggests that the Obamas might have snubbed the Sussexes last week because they want to show their allegiance with Queen Elizabeth.

Speaking to The Sun, Angela put it this way, “I’m sure that if they say we can only deal with one brother and his wife — you cannot have both because they are so far apart now — they will go towards William. The Obamas clearly always regarded Harry highly, but I am sure they can see through Meghan. They may stay around, but they won’t be as pally as they once were.”
According to the New York Daily News, the Obamas scaled back their party because of Covid-19 concerns, but that didn’t stop some of their closest friends from coming. The guest list included A-listers such as George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Stephen Spielberg and Bruce Springsteen along with Oprah Winfrey and Ava DuVernay. Notably absent were royal Californians, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
And while it’s been noted that the Delta variant, responsible for a massive spike in cases nationwide, prompted the Obamas to scale back their initial 475-person guest list, you’d think at least one of the Sussexes would have showed up for the party, but they didn’t.
