Lady Gaga’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer, who was shot in the ‘line of duty’, is asking for help during his ‘road trip of recovery’.
After being shot in the chest during a high-profile dognapping in February of this year, Fischer decided to ‘get the hell out of Dodge’ and explore the country by van on a six month odyssey, in an effort to heal.
Spending the time “reclaiming my body,” Fischer is also undergoing the solo trip to strengthen his emotional and mental health by “exploring this country while seeking out communities that support the process of growing from trauma.”
Lady Gaga’s Dog Walker Sets Up GoFundMe For ‘Trauma Recovery’ Road Trip
Fischer has been seeking out retreat centers, trauma programs, queer healers, creatives and spiritual leaders and planned to continue doing so. Until disaster struck. Two months into the journey his van, Trudy— a ‘91 Ford Falcon, gave out on him, leaving Fischer essentially broke and homeless.
“Having run out of savings and surviving on donations from generous loved ones, I am humbly asking for your help,” Fischer wrote on his GoFundMe page. He says the money will go toward a new home on wheels and other travel expenses. “This is not an easy thing to ask, but I have started to realize sharing your vulnerability with others is exactly when radical change begins to occur for everyone involved.”
Within the first 24 hours of the GoFundMe going up, Fischer accrued $5000 of the $40,000 goal. At time of writing it is over the $10,000 mark. The video he made to accompany the page starts with and ends with a gunshot- perhaps to tug on heart strings, perhaps as another “healing tool.”
Fischer has been quoted as saying the emotional part of his trauma recovery has been more difficult than the physical one, even though he spent many weeks in the hospital after the brush with death.
He says he chose to take the road trip after finding himself “without purpose”. We think getting away from the media attention and curious folk in the Hollywood Hills was a bit of a coup, also.
