Taking Things Too Far – A London Library Employs A NSFW Rainbow Monkey To Teach Kids About Reading

A library put on an event for children about reading which sounded like a great thing… until they hired a man in a “rainbow, dildo swinging monkey costume with his nipples and butt exposed,” according to the Independent Chronicle.

The library issue an apology following the outrage of many parents.

“During an event put on at the library today, there was a performance by a Carnival Arts Company. Unfortunately, one of the animal costumes was inappropriate, which we were not aware of at the time of booking. We deeply apologize for the offense caused. This is being looked into”

This seems to be a drastic change of attitude as the library’s earlier Tweets joked about the inappropriate costume just earlier in the day. They replied to a comment that wrote, “That was a shock when monkey turned around.” Their response was, “I know… monkey’s out of control. But when you’ve got it, flaunt it I suppose.”

Several people commented their concern for the event and the costume (obviously), with one person asking if we’ve completely lost our moral compass as a society, “This is unbelievable. Have we completely lost our moral compass as a society?”

Seemingly the worst part is that the library was fully aware of the costume and joked about it online. There is a moral line, whether we have forgotten it or not, and this is simply NOT a monkey costume. This is an obvious sexual deviant dressed in a proactive and inappropriate costume for nearly any event! Let alone an event with children and reading.

The company that supplied the costumes to the library has also apologized,

“We apologize for the offense caused while raising awareness of the reading campaign by Redbridge Libraries on 10 July. We never intended to offend residents,” the apology read. “We respect everyone’s individual opinion with no offense to any part. Actions are being taken, more information to follow.”

This is something that seems pretty obvious shouldn’t have needed an apology because it never should have happened to begin with. Who in their right mind looked at the costume with a dildo and nipples with no butt and thought, “hmmm, a reading event for children at a library? Perfect!”

What do you think? What do you think about this and should the library feel a bit more ashamed of themselves? Let us know in the comments below.
