David Beckham and Sacha Baron Cohen are just a few of the British celebrities who have condemned the racist abuse of England’s soccer stars. Three England players of color – Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukaya Saka have been getting a lot of racist abuse online following the Euro 2020 final, in which Italy beat England in a penalty shootout.

All three players missed penalties in the 3-2 shootout loss and were targeted on social media after the game. Both teams drew 1-1 after extra time and Italy won the shootout 3-2, with England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka – who are players of color – missing their penalty kicks.

They have been targeted with racial abuse online and on social media. And now some of Britain’s biggest celebrities are speaking up about the abuse, by saying enough is enough.

Former England captain David Beckham, 46, praised the team’s performance and said “they all deserve nothing but thanks and respect.”

He wrote on Instagram: “To Gareth and the boys…I know how much this will hurt but you have the pride and thanks of your country for what you have achieved and you have done it the right way. Anyone who doesn’t support and respect each and every one of you today isn’t an England fan. Win or lose we stand with you .. Hold those heads high..”

Sacha Baron Cohen, who in the past has slammed big tech for allowing hateful content on social media, also said, “Hey Mark Zuckerberg & Jack Dorsey — Facebook/Instagram and Twitter are spreading racist attacks on these black athletes. Online racism leads to real-world hate crimes. It’s time to rid racism from your platforms once and for all!”

Baron Cohen added the hashtag #StopHateForProfit.
