Cady McClain won her first Daytime Emmy all the way back in 1990. Her win this past week at the 48th Daytime Emmy awards became an historic win for the actress.
Cady’s latest win was for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series. Cady stepped into the role of Jennifer Horton-Devereaux on NBC’s Days of Our Lives in 2020. The legacy character is most associated with Melissa Reeves who had played the role of Jennifer on and off for nearly 30 years, premiering back in 1985.
Why Soap Veteran Cady McClain’s Newest Daytime Emmy Win is Historic.
When Melissa decided not to return to the show after the Coronavirus hiatus, citing an an willingness to travel to and from her Nashville home as a pandemic raged on, Cady stepped in. In what could have been a difficult task, Cady won over audiences and apparently wowed critics.
It’s not terribly surprising, as the talent actress earned the 2004 Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series trophy for her role as Rosanna Cabot on CBS’ As the World Turns.
Cady’s first 1990 win was for Outstanding Juvenile Female in a Drama Series when she portrayed Dixie Cooney/Dixie Martin on ABC’ All My Children.
With all three statuettes under her belt, Cady has become the first female performer to nab Daytime Emmys for three different series. All three of the suds-fests also happen to air on three different networks. Oh, and the awards have been won by Cady over three different decades.
McClain’s résumé also includes a major role as Kelly Andrews on CBS’ The Young and the Restless but Days fans are hoping she will reprise the role of Jennifer if Melissa decides to not come back at all. Currently the character is off-screen, but was still portrayed by Cady during a recent phone call with husband Jack Devereaux (Mathew Ashford).
With Abigail Deveraux-DiMera returning to Salem soon (portrayer Marci Miller has been on maternity leave), it seems the time is right for Jennifer to return soon.
