Bindi Irwin is celebrating Father’s Day by showing love for 3 men who are pillars in her life, and opening up about the one man who creates constant torment.
Though it is not Father’s Day in Australia– Aussies celebrate the occasion in September (funnily enough, Mother’s Day is the same in both the U.S. and Australia), Bindi Irwin is still wanting to celebrate the three fathers that she considers ‘pillars’ in her life.
She gave a shout out to her father, the late Steve Irwin who she says “taught me the importance of strength when standing up for what I believe in and to have empathy for all living beings.”
Bindi Irwin Drops Bombshell About Estranged Grandfather on Father’s Day
The next man she acknowledged was her husband of just over one year, Chandler Powell of who she says, “My husband amazes me every day with his kind and steadfast heart, his love for our daughter is infinite.”
The last man she gave accolades to was her father-in-law, Chandler’s father, Chris Powell. “My father-in-law works tirelessly for his family and is always there with a word of encouragement,” she gushed before finishing her social media post by saying “These extraordinary men inspire me and I love them so very much.”
When a fan commented on Bindi’s post, asking about her grandfather, Bindi shocked all by revealing the “abusive relationship” between the new mom-of-one and her grandfather, and the previously private discord within the Irwin family.
Bindi revealed that her paternal grandfather, Bob Irwin has shown “no interest” in her or in meeting her infant daughter.
She further explained how “he has returned gifts I’ve sent him after he opened them, he has ignored my correspondence and from the time I was a little girl he has ignored me, preferring to spend time doing anything else rather than being with me.”
Furthermore, Bindi said that she has never heard a kind word from her grandfather and though it breaks her heart, she could no longer engage in the unhealthy “abusive relationship.”
For her part, Bindi’s mom and Steve’s widow, Terri Irwin has persisted in attempting to create a relationship between herself, her children and grandchild, and her father-in-law, Bob.
However, even Christmas gifts have been ignored. Bob shows zero acknowledgment for his late son’s family. The last time Bob was photographed with his son’s family was at his memorial in 2007.
Bindi, who says the family has financially supported her 81-year-old grandfather for the past 3 decades, continued to say of the estrangement, “I have struggled with this relationship my entire life and it brings me enormous pain.”
This makes us extra sad for the loss of Bindi’s father, but truly thankful for her husband and father-in-law’s support.
