Considering the fact that he spends so much time on yachts, he would have done this a long time ago. Jay-Z (Shawn Corey Carter) recently revealed that he only learned how to swim after he was inspired by his daughter, Blue Ivy. Here’s what he has to say.
During an appearance on The Shop: Uninterrupted, the rapper said that he didn’t learn how to swim until his daughter Blue Ivy was born back in 2011. He decided to jump in the water and learn how to swim because he wanted to make sure that he could be there for his daughter, if she ever needed him.
Jay-Z Just Learned How To Swim Thanks To His Daughter Blue Ivy
Jay-Z said, “There goes everything you need to know. This is a metaphor for our relationship. If she ever fell in the water and I couldn’t get her, I couldn’t even fathom that thought. I gotta learn how to swim. That’s it. That was the beginning of our relationship.”
He also opened up about how Blue Ivy reacted to hearing her father got nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“I got the [Hall of Fame] announcement, I was taking Blue to school, I was like, ‘This ain’t no celebration,’” he shared, suggesting Blue Ivy was less than impressed with the exciting news he had to share that morning.
“She walked away, I was like, ‘Yo, give me a kiss I’m in the Hall of Fame!’ She’s like ‘Bye, dad.’”
He also added, “Feeling loved is the most important thing a child needs, you know? What if my child doesn’t want to be in music or sports? I have no idea, right? But as long as your child feels supported, and feels loved, I think anything is possible.”
