The US Capitol building is on lockdown after there was reported gunfire nearby! Police have locked it down and staff members were told they could not enter or exit the buildings. According to Spectrum News NY1,
“A law enforcement official says officers were responding to a report of a possible shooting on a street near the Capitol complex. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured.”
This came just a few minutes before the U.S. Capitol Police Twitter account made a statement at 12:26 PM, April 2, 2021.
The U.S. Capitol Police Twitter account just tweeted,
“CRITICAL INCIDENT: USCP is responding to the North Barricade vehicle access point along Independence Avenue for reports someone rammed a vehicle into two USCP officers. A suspect is in custody. Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital.”

As it appears, the gunfire sound may have been the sound of the vehicle ramming through the vehicle access point. Thankfully, the suspect is in custody. The two officers and the suspect are all being transported to the hospital.
At the moment, we don’t know exactly what happened. We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and letting your know if there were actual shots fired.
Just 2 minutes ago, 12:35 pm, April 2, 2021, U.S. Capital Police issued a correction, saying it happened on Constitution Avenue.
EDIT: One officer has been confirmed dead.
