The popular game franchise, ‘Twisted Metal’ is finally coming to life in a new live-action television series. The show will be produced by the popular Cobra Kai series producer, Michael Jonathan Smith. It also brought on action-comedy writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick who wrote on both Deadpool films as well as Zombieland.
Variety reported on the news today saying that Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions are beginning work on the new series that was originally reported in 2019.
Reportedly, the series will be about the following,
“The show is about a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown named who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck, whom fans of the game will know as Sweet Tooth.”

This will mark the second project from Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions in recent months, with the other being an adaptation of the popular series ‘The Last of Us’, which just cast ‘The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal as the lead character Joel.
Speaking on the project, Executive Vice President of comedy development for Sony Pictures Television said, “We love Twisted Metal in all its twisted insanity. Michael Jonathan Smith hit it out of the park with an action-packed, brilliantly funny adaptation and we are grateful for the support of Rhett, Paul, Will, and our friends at PlayStation.”
For fans of the games, this is exciting news. With the recent news of ‘The Last of Us’ and trailers like ‘Mortal Kombat’ hitting huge for HBO Max, I think producers are realizing that now may be the best time to create these stories.
