Netflix’s new series, ‘The One’ is set in a futuristic world where a DNA test will find you your perfect partner. These are the ones you’re genetically programmed to fall in love with. What could go wrong with this? It asks the hard question of, “what if there was someone out there who was better for me?”

Take a look at the trailer below that was uploaded with the following description,

“The One is set five minutes in the future, in a world where a DNA test can find your perfect partner – the one person you’re genetically predisposed to fall passionately in love with. No matter how good your relationship, which one of us can honestly say we haven’t thought about whether there is someone better out there? What if a hair sample is all it takes to find them? The idea is simple, but the implications are explosive. We will never think of love and relationships in the same way again. The One launches on Netflix March 12.”

While the series and trailer look interesting, many people are already comparing it to an episode of ‘Black Mirror’. It’s understandable, but I think there could be more to this series. It’s taking a different approach to something and making it unique, and from the trailer, it looks like there’s going to be a lot of different things going on.

There were also viewers hoping this was a remake or series of Jet Li’s 2001 sci-fi martial arts film ‘The One’, which, is a great film in itself, but definitely not what this is about. Overall, I’ll probably give this a watch, but I don’t think it’s something that will be longer than a season.

Netflix’s ‘The One’ releases next month on March 12.
