There can only be one Samantha in this town, thank you very much. Actress Jennifer Coolidge recently went on the record to say that no, she doesn’t want to replace Kim Cattrall on the new Sex and the City reboot. Even though Kim has said no to the reboot, her former co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis are all set to return. Here’s what you need to know.
In a new interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Jennifer was asked if she would be interested in playing Kim’s character Samantha on the new show, but she quickly shot the idea down.
Jennifer Coolidge Doesn’t Want To Replace Kim Cattrall In Sex And The City Reboot
“You know, I was a huge, and still am, a huge ‘Sex and the City’ fan. It’s one of those shows [that] you can just watch the reruns and never get times of them,” Jennifer said.
She added, “But I have to say, I am such a Kim Cattrall fan, and I don’t see anyone being able to replace her in that part. It was just the perfect — yeah, I don’t think you can replace her.”
Just last week, SJP officially announced that the reboot, called “And Just Like That…,” would premiere on HBO Max. She has since opened up about moving forward with the revival without Kim Cattrall, saying she’ll miss her and “We loved her so.”
Meanwhile, Kim “liked” a tweet from a fan commending the actress for putting her own needs first following the news that she would not be joining her former castmates for the “Sex and the City” reboot.
The tweet said, “I absolutely love ‘Sex and the City’ and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is [a] great example of putting yourself first. Well done @KimCattrall.”
