‘Days of our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers have found that fan favorite Bryan Dattilo has been promoted to series regular again!
Dattilo has appeared on our screens as Lucas Horton since 1993, but after budget concerns in 2001 resulted in many contract slashings, Dattilo was demoted to recurring status. This set in motion a roller coaster of promotions and demotions for the actor over the next two decades.
When Lucas was sent to Europe in 2018 both fans and the portrayer of the character thought it was the end. Fans were not happy with such a long serving character to receive such an insignificant farewell storyline.

But both fans and Dattilo needn’t have worried. Lucas Horton once again showed up back in the drama-fraught town of Salem in 2019 where he has been on ‘recurring’ status since.
Now that Dattilo is back on contract, writers have some new storylines up their sleeves for the (mostly) level-headed father. Airing from March of this year Dattilo will be embroiled in an emotional storyline centered around his daughter Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold ) AND her mother– on-again, off-again love Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney)!
As DOOL executive Producer Ken Corday said, “It is always a beautiful day in Salem when we get to welcome Alison Sweeney back to the canvas,”
Fans can’t wait to see what this means for Lucas and Sami, especially seeing as James Scott who played Sami’s husband EJ DiMera until 2014 is adamant he will not return to the soap. Could old ‘Lumi’ feelings resurface while EJ continues to ‘recover In Italy’?
“Sami Brady is an integral part of our show’s history,” Corday has said. “We are elated that she’s coming home again.”
Under her current deal with the show, Sweeney will appear in several episodes through most of 2021. Though she is not back on contract, a die-hard Days fan knows Sami doesn’t need long to cause excessive trouble in Salem but ramifications could see embattled Lucas cleaning up his ex-wife’s mess for years to come!
