While half of the country might have been celebrating President-elect Joe Biden’s successful bid for the White House, this morning the entire country is mourning the loss of a television legend. There are new reports that say Jeopardy host Alex Trebek has passed away at the age of 80. He died following his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
As many fans know, Trebek hosted the show for 36 years and continued to do so even though he announced that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in March of 2019. The beloved host continued to film episodes during his cancer treatments and shared emotional moments with fans and contestants.

“I’m going to fight this and I’m going to keep working and with the love and support from my family and friends and with the help of your prayers,” he vowed in a video released at the time. “I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Truth told, I have to because under the terms of my contract, I have to host ‘Jeopardy!’ for three more years, so help me. Keep the faith and we will win. We will get it done.”
The show’s Twitter account released a statement on Sunday that said, “Jeopardy! is saddened to share that Alex Trebek passed away peacefully at home early this morning, surrounded by family and friends. Thank you, Alex.”
Alex Trebek made history in 2014 by hosting his 6,829th episode, which was the most by a presenter of any single TV game show.
Born in Sudbury, Canada, he studied philosophy before becoming a journalist, working as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. His big break came in 1984 when another legendary TV host and producer, Merv Griffin, brought back Jeopardy!, which he originally created in 1964 and ran on NBC until 1975. Our condolences to Alex Trebek’s entire family.
