British Royal Family News says there was a time in which the royals were somewhat behind when it came to having their own social media accounts and posting updates for fans, but it looks like times have certainly changed.
That’s because there are some royals that want to pull out and become anti-tech altogether. Of course, we are talking about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who not only quit Instagram, but have also expressed their disdain for all things social media. Here’s what you need to know.
British Royal Family News: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Want To Become The Anti-Tech Royals
In their new virtual talk with Time100, both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said that they want to spend more of their time off-line than on, and that’s why they’ve pulled the plug on their social media accounts. Meghan specifically spoke about how complex social media and the online world can be.
“It can feel really overwhelming to try to understand all the nuance of what happens online. It is all-encompassing and it affects us at a multi-faceted level,” she said. “And so we started with professors and experts in the field, with defectors from some of the largest platforms, neurologists — people to really help us view it through a holistic approach. And in that there have been relationships, and now friendships, that we have formed with a lot of these people who have a shared goal of wanting to make this space healthier and better for all of us.”
Harry added, “What is happening in the online world is affecting the world. It is not restricted to certain platforms or certain social media conversations or groups. This is a global crisis—a global crisis of hate, a global crisis of misinformation, and a global health crisis.”
Previously, Meghan said that she at one point felt like the “most trolled person on the planet” because of social media back in 2019.
“Now, 8 months of that I wasn’t even visible — I was on maternity leave or with a baby. But what was able to be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable,” she said.
