While there’s no doubt that Gwyneth Paltrow is known for a lot of things, especially when it comes to her Hollywood movies and her celebrity profile, if there’s one thing that she doesn’t want to be known as, it’s a lazy mom.
As a matter of fact, the 47-year-old actress recently revealed that she’s instilled quite a work ethic in her two children, Apple, 16, and Moses, 14, just so they won’t grow up spoiled. Here’s what you need to know.
Gwyneth Paltrow Refuses To Spoil Her Kids
According to the Daily Mail, Gwyneth credits her parents, actress Blythe Danner and the late director Bruce Paltrow for refusing to let her be in the public eye until she turned 18.
Her parents are also the ones who have taught her how to have a strong work ethic and not rely on her famous name to get her places. She’s now looking to parent her two children the same way. Gwyneth shares Apple and Moses with her ex-husband, Chris Martin.
The Iron Man actress said in an interview, “That’s why I think it’s so important … to raise a kid that has a work ethic and whose values are aligned with yours or with their own sense of who they are, etc, because the truth of the matter is the doors can be opened for you, but if you think about all the people who try and it doesn’t happen.”
Gwyneth goes on to say that she never wanted Apple or Moses to be spoiled, seeing how that often happens with celebrity kids in the Hollywood world. Instead, she wants to instill strong values in them, which is one of the reasons why her 16-year-old daughter already has a part time job at a clothing store.
She further explained, “As a parent you think, all I can do for these kids is teach them right from wrong and teach them what work is. I’ve really tried not to just hand them things.”
The proud mother also had strong words of praise for her first-born child. Gwyneth continued, “I think, it’s really been interesting to be [Apple’s] mother, because as she’s come into her own, it’s almost like, you know, it’s like watching her harness her own power with every passing year, and I’m just like, ‘What is this child here to do?’ She’s so bright and so funny… she’s hilarious.”
