Youtuber Tana Mongeau has always been a bit problematic when it comes to being racist, way back when she first started being a presence on youtube, she was called out for racist tweets but nothing much ever really came of it because twitter and youtube were still very much separate entities and she knew that she couldn’t get away with that on youtube without being very publicly called out. Fast forward to 2017 and she was caught using the n-word, the full-on hard R, n-word at her friend Amari because she and her other friends thought it would be funny. She wasn’t using it in the context of a song, or anything like that, rather she was just called him the n-word because her and her friends thought it would be funny.
This is where things get a bit muddled, but just bear with me. So apparently, an iDubbz video came out, calling her out showing video proof of these slurs. Tana then went on to make her apology video saying that she had indeed used the words, with the hard R, in an aggressive way at her friend Amari. However when her friend Kahlen, a fellow youtube collaborator on her collab channel entitled “TRASH’ (yes, that was literally the name of the channel) tried to call her out on it in private, just so he could have a private conversation with her about it and how uncomfortable it made him feel, she proceeded to gaslight him and let on like she was innocent, that she had always thought that it meant “homie” and that it was a common thing that she heard due to her Vegas upbringing.
Youtuber Tana Mongeau guilty of racial microaggression?
I think this is where Tana’s lack of a high school education really, really shows because if she had cracked a book just once in her entire high school career then she would have known that the technical definition of that word is literally scum. You’re referring to people as scum, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. She was referring to her friend a scum, so it’s no wonder that another person of the same race would feel uncomfortable and want to talk to her about it and see where her headspace is at. During this time, he actually believed what she told him in private and stood with Tana, but unfortunately when the truth came out, Kahlen received a bunch of racist hate from people for doing so, literally calling him the same slur that Tana had used to describe Amari, because he had allegedly been taken in by her.
When Kahlen tried to tell her about all this hate that he was receiving on her behalf, Tana shut him down. There is also evidence that her manager, Jordan has the same microaggressive tendencies because according to Kahlen he tried to paint a picture of another black youtuber, SimplyNessa15 that simply wasn’t true. He told everyone that collabed on the TRASH channel that SimplyNessa15, who had had beef with one of the TRASH members because Nessa accused her of being a social climber, that Nessa was “mentally insane” and then proceeded to diagnose her with schizophrenia. Kahlen also claims that no one ever got paid for their work on TRASH, he claimed that people got paid but never for their work on that channel, and that when asked where the money went, both Tana and Jordan will both put the blame on each other which is just really suspicious. Also, when pressed as to where his payment was from the youtube network that they were all a part of (not the TRASH channel specifically, just his network), Jordan accused Kahlen of ‘acting like Nessa’.
Since when is asking for money that you earned, that you worked for, a “mentally insane” or “schizophrenic” trait, I may ask? Also Jordan needs to stop diagnosing people, last time I checked he isn’t a licensed shrink so he really doesn’t have the authority to speak to any kind of diagnosis anyone may or may not have. It doesn’t end there. At Playlist Live there was an incident where Kahlen got locked out of the after party for the youtube creators, he was supposed to be with Tana’s crowd, but he somehow got locked out. During that time, Tana got a text from Jordan simply saying “police” and somehow assumed from that that Kahlen had gotten arrested and proceeded to spread that rumor for the rest of the night.
She didn’t reach out to Kahlen, she didn’t ask him whether or not he had actually been arrested or even if he was okay, no she just continued to perpetuate a nasty rumor that wasn’t at all true. Not once did Kahlen ever have a run-in with the police at Playlist Live, not once was he arrested. She tried to apologize and brush it off because she had assumed due to the text from Jordan that Kahlen had gotten arrested, I don’t know about you but if my friend had gotten arrested I would be texting them to see if they were okay or at least calling someone who could actually verify for me whether or not my friend was okay and needed help. Hindsight is 20/20 and this situation is no different. Tana really needs to do better if she wants to seriously be a ‘role model’ to her young fans as she was saying a few months ago. Has she realized that her microaggressive behavior is not okay? Not yet. Will she? Stay tuned!
