Youtuber Myka Stauffer recently rehomed her toddler-aged son that she had adopted from China 2 years ago. Rehoming is usually what one does to a pet they receive who’s personality didn’t quite fit in with their lifestyle, but in this case, it looks like having a young, special needs child along with her four other children didn’t fit into Myka’s christian mommy vlogger aesthetic! Because when the going got tough, she threw up her hands and simply said that she was not about that life. However there’s been some questions as to whether she had the legal authority to do that and now the proper authorities are investigating.
Youtuber Myka Stauffer: The thing is, it looks like she does.
Private adoption is a thing. In certain states, Ohio is one of them, it would seem that as long as you have lawyers involved and there are the appropriate home studies and the other things involved that an adoption agency or CPS would do, that you don’t actually have to directly involve them or any kind of government agency. Sometimes, adopting a child is as simple as handing over power of attorney of that child to the parents that the current Mom and Dad pick, and that’s it. But in this case since there was special needs and international adoption involved there needed to be lawyers present as well. I guess all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted after all.
Youtuber Myka Stauffer: Update on the Huxley Stauffer situation
What she actually did is termed as ‘adoption disillution’ which is what happens after an adoption is finalized and it doesn’t work out. Previously we had heard that the international adoption wasn’t finalized but now that we know that the adoption was dissolved and not interrupted (adoption interruption is what happens when an adoption is stopped prior to finalization.) We have heard a myriad of stories as to why things didn’t work out, that there were ‘scary’ incidents in the home involving the other children, but some sources close to Huxley indicate that he couldn’t have behaved in this way.
So what was the driving force behind the Stauffer adoption disillution? Honestly, it looks like it could be a case of severe narcissism. What Mother in their right mind asks an adoption agency what kind of special needs are ‘not too difficult to manage but would make other people think it was hard’? When you adopt a child, there is a box you can check that asks if you would be open to adopting a special needs child or not, the Stauffers did not have to check that box. If they felt they could not handle a special needs child, then they should not have checked that box, because there are so many families out there that would willingly check that box. That would willingly give a child like Huxley a place in their home forever, without using him for youtube fame or views first.
At least now that the proper authorities have stepped in, we can all breathe a little easier knowing that Huxley is safe and he is not a missing child or he wasn’t sent back to his home country. Hopefully, the rest of his life can be spent with a family that puts his needs first and doesn’t use him for any sort of monetization purpose. We at DSD will keep you updated on this situation.
