TLC ‘Dragnificent’ spoilers finds that when I saw that the next episode was going to be in Mobile, Alabama, my heart jumped! While Mobile is not my hometown I am definitely from Alabama so any time the state is showcased in a good light, which doesn’t usually happen all that often, I’m here for it. Although, I have a bit of a beef to pick with the Queens, as it were. Mobile, is pronounced Mo-beel, like automobile, without the auto in front of it. It was amusing because you can tell that not one of these people have ever stepped foot in our state and probably only regarded it as a block of red on a map, which is alright, because that’s what it usually is. Still! Pronunciation guides are your friends!
Being an Alabama native I thought I knew everything about my home state but I did not know that Mobile was the originally the home of Mardi Gras. Hah, N’awlins just thinks they were the OG, turns out it was us! Granted, I have no idea when the changeover was made but hey, the truth will stand when the world’s on fire, as my Grandmother used to say. I think out of all of the cast in this particular episode, I like Bebe the best. I don’t know where her accent comes from, but I am living for it. The way she pronounces ‘Alabama’ is so regal, even if she can’t pronounce the city she’s in. (Man, I’d hate for any of these gals to wind up in Okauchee!)
TLC ‘Dragnificent’ Spoilers: How to pronounce Mobile, honey!
In this episode they were helping this girl named Danielle who was finally being crowned homecoming queen 30 years after the fact! In High School, she had ran against Angela, her best friend, who was the one who had contacted the Dragnificent team about her bestie, Angela was the one who had actually been crowned queen back in the day. Now, she was happy to see her bestie get the title instead. Awww, girl power! We stan women supporting other women here at DSD. Of course, she didn’t tell the Dragnificent team that when she originally applied, she just told them that Danielle was her bestie and that she had been crowned queen. What a classy gal!
I’m going to agree with Jujubee here though, that original dress that Danielle had was not fit for one person, let alone the thousands of people who were going to show up at this high school reunion. (Seriously what kind of high school has thousands of people show up at a reunion? I guess Mobile does!) If I’m going to give it a read here I’m going to say that it was 2005 Kmart Chic. I’m glad that the Queens were there to do her one better. Even she said herself that the dress didn’t make her feel pretty, much less like a queen and for this kind of occasion one wants to look their best. God sent her four drag queens for a reason.
So the next move is to go the NYC and meet this fashion designer named Domino. They pulled some fabrics at his.. showroom? They settled on a white and gold piece that just complimented Danielle’s skin tone perfectly, and then they went to Alexis’s apartment in New York and we got to see Alexis out of drag, which can sometimes be a polarizing experience for the audience, but Alexis looks great as both genders. I agree with Danielle 100%. Next, Bebe taught her how to ascend and descend stairs like a queen in Times Square! I’m actually not sure what this staircase is there for in the middle of Times Square but for now we’ll just assume that it’s there for occasions just like these.
Alexis was also in charge of the hair as well. She got her to a stylist named Bobbie Brown and then she proceeded to get her a new, luxurious-looking weave, and a teach her how to do her eyebrows so that they were laid for the gods. Then they went and did the ultimate and brought Melissa on stage at a drag bar to get her used to an audience. Man, they really went all out! But, as with any epic occasion, disaster almost struck. It was literally the day of her coronation and Danielle had not seen her dress or had her fitting. There was no time for a plan B, only plan A. Fortunately, fate smiled upon them and when Domino graced them with the dress via overnight shipping, everything went smoothly. Once they got her laced up, the dress fit like a glove and they sent her on her way to her coronation.
Danielle was heartbroken to watch them go, but the Queens didn’t plan on missing her event for the world. She wanted them to be there with her when she ascended her throne, but they pulled the ultimate surprise and came and performed for the reunion and danced with the queen herself! This show is so much fun, and the work that these ladies do is just plain awesome. Everyone needs their own drag team, seriously. I can’t wait for the next episode! Stay tuned!!!
