Now that Lifetime’s hit show, Married at First Sight is over, we wanted to talk more about Decision Day. On the season finale, there were five couples, that all live in the D.C. area, that needed to make a choice on staying married or getting a divorce. These couples met for the first time about two months ago. They were matched by relationship experts and then had a honeymoon together, then moved into a place together. The show follows them in every situation that could possibly happen. Decision Day is the biggest day of their lives and we have a full recap of what happened.

There were two couples that even broke up before Decision Day even happened. There has been a lot of drama and even betrayals since this show started. Some of the couples even broadcast their feelings on Instagram and if you remember, there were fights with the production team. On Lifetime next week, there will be a “where are they now”episode that will show the couples five months from the dreaded Decision Day. So let’s find out what happened with the couples.
Jessica Studer and Austin Hurd were a fan favorite from the very beginning. Their marriage was pretty much flawless and these two didn’t seem too stressed about it at all. They meshed very well together. The few things that these two didn’t have in common was how neat and messy they are. Jess has said that she is a neat freak and Austin is very messy. Austin also kept the amount of travel he did for his job from Jess. She did know that he traveled for his job, but she wasn’t aware that he would be gone for almost a whole month.
Jess did end up falling for Austin though and for awhile, he didn’t wanted to tell her that he loved her back. The great surprise about this all was that at the end of the show, he did tell her that he loved her and this happened right before they fully committed to be married.
A relationship that seemed to struggle was between Brandon Reid and Taylor Dunklin. Brandon has quite a temper and he blew up on Taylor and the production team. On Decision Day, Taylor was surprised when Brandon showed up. Taylor was very anxious that he wouldn’t show up and he did! Taylor said to him on Decision Day, “With all the things that transpired, it might not be the best for us to try to continue.” Then Brandon said, “I’m over all of this,” and he stormed out.
Meka Jones and Michael Watson are another couple that had a lot of dishonesty in their relationship. This was a dreaded day for them as well. The two of them both saw that a divorce would be a big loss for them. “If we get a divorce, it’s going to be the biggest failure I’ve had in my life,” said Meka. Then she went on to say, “There’s been too much deception…I still don’t feel like I know who my husband is. For that reason, I do want a divorce.” Michael then said, “For me, I don’t believe in divorce. It’s disappointing.”
Another couple that we were all worried about was Katie Conrad and Derek Sherman. These two got really close really fast and then the sparks ended. Katie didn’t like how immature Derek is and it was a huge problem for her. The matchmakers thought they could make it through. Derek said to Katie, “I want to stay married with you because I do believe I can fall in love with you.” Then Katie said to him, “Part of me feels like my heart’s not in it. But I’m not ready to give up yet, so I would like to stay married.” These two ended up signing a lease for a year.
The final couple is Zach Justice and Mindy Shiben. These two said they were done a few weeks before Decision Day. Zach just couldn’t commit to her. He wouldn’t even move in with her. On Decision Day, they did show up and Zach said to her, “I do think you came into my life for a reason.” Then she said, “I feel like deciding to separate from Zach was the best thing I could have done. Ever since that day, I feel such a huge weight lifted off me.” We are happy for the couples who made it and we wish them all luck in their marriage.
