HBO’s Avenue 5 is right around the corner! It premieres this month, on January 19. It stars Hugh Laurie (House), Josh Gad (Frozen), and Zach Woods (The League) as they traverse through space. It is set 40 years in the future when the solar system is the world’s oyster. Avenue 5 follows the captain and crew of a luxury space cruise ship as they navigate disgruntled passengers and unexpected events after experiencing technical difficulties onboard.
Oh yeah, and it’s a giant hotel, cruise ship adventure thing. Because what’s better than a Carribean cruise? A cruise, in space! Avenue 5 is the cruise ship where you can go shopping, then stop by a window to gaze at a moon as you pass by. Sounds pretty glamorous, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not easy to run a cruise ship in space it turns out. Luckily, we have Matthew Spencer, the head of passenger services to lead us around the ship and show us everything they have to offer.

So what can this cruise ship offer you that others can’t? Well, Matthew Spencer will tell you what! Instead of shopping, you can spend an entire shopping here, in space. If you get a call from work, you can rent out their business center, in space. You can get all the amenities you would on a normal cruise ship here as well, like sunbathing, rock climbing and spas, but in space! They even have air conditioning in every room! Every single room! So what are you waiting for? Get everything you normally would on a cruise ship, but this time, in space.
Satire At Its Finest
When the first trailer for Avenue 5 came out, it seemed like just another comedy. It looked funny enough, but just another series with insert crazy location and people. However, the more these teasers and tidbits come out the more satirical it gets. This may be one of the funnier comedies to come out in recent memory, of course, we can’t be sure yet.
From Hugh Laurie and Josh Gad’s excellent resume of talent and comedy to these hilarious ads starring Zach Woods, Avenue 5 looks to be something unique and hilarious.
