Netflix’s Locke & Key releases next month! You may be wondering what exactly it is. Don’t worry, we all were! Locke & Key is being adapted from a graphic novel, by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriquez. It is published by IDW Publishing, who is no stranger to getting their publications adapted to screen. Notably, 30 Days of Night, starring Josh Hartnett was adapted in 2007. Also the new Netflix series V Wars was an IDW Publication. So it appears Netflix may have found a creative pool to pull from! So what is Locke & Key about and what do we know about it? Let’s get into it.
Although, it seems this has been attempted several times before. Beginning with Fox back in 2010. The series was never bought, but the pilot episode was shown at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International, where it was well-received! Unfortunately, we lost out on that opportunity.
Then, in 2017, Hulu had ordered a pilot! In the end, again it was not picked up. Now Netflix has stepped in because honestly, what have they got to lose? They have already shot the first season, and all the episodes will be available for streaming next month. Way to go Netflix!
Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ – The Graphic Novel Comes To Life In This Trailer
According to a summary on IMDB, “Three siblings who move into their ancestral estate after their father’s gruesome murder discover their new home’s magical keys, which must be used in their stand against an evil creature who wants the keys and their powers.”
In the trailer, it gives off Stranger Thing and The Haunting of Hill House vibes, it seems to be dark, but without going all the way dark. It’s definitely a trend we’ve been seeing quite a bit in the past few years since the release of Stranger Things. Although this graphic novel was created way back in 2008, it now has the steam to be adapted, and especially by Netflix. The trend is happening now.
What Can We See In The Trailer?
“Are you my echo?”. “Yes.” Well, that’s terrifying! In the trailer, we see the three siblings first going to their new home. Their father has passed, and this house belonged to him. We are immediately haunted by the images and sounds coming from the house, and that’s before we find any keys.
Obviously, keys play an important role in this story. As every key unlocks something. Something that should remain locked. The first we see in the trailer is the youngest sibling finding a key marked with a skull in a painting. Oh, look! There’s a doorknob with the same skull on it. As soon as he opens the door, it’s like his soul leaves his body and flies off. How they get him back, we’ll have to watch and see.
The rest of the trailer shows ghosts and monsters. We see shadowy figures following them throughout the house. There are even creatures that remind you of Stranger Things. Whatever the vibe you get from the trailer, it seems to be destined to succeed on Netflix. Finally! For any other soap opera and entertainment news, please visit Daily Soap Dish.
