Netflix's 'Cheer' - New Series From Creators Of 'Last Chance U'

Cheer is a new documentary series from the creators of Last Chance U. It follows Navarro College’s competitive cheer squad as they work to win a national title. Navarro is a revered college for cheering and shows off with its 14 National Championships. The docuseries premieres tomorrow, January 8, and will span six episodes. Each episode they will face injuries, sacrifice, personal setbacks, and triumphs. Hopefully, all of this will lead them to the National Championship they all desire.

Navarro’s cheer team is headed by their coach, Monica, whose goal it was to be the best in the country. She has achieved this numerous times, and it doesn’t look like she plans on slowing down anytime soon. This series will follow her coaching methods as she tries to turn her team into another championship team.

Netflix’s ‘Cheer’ – Only Six Episodes?

One of the things that sticks out about Cheer, is it will only span six episodes. This may not seem like a lot to most viewers, but we must remember Netflix is behind this. We never know how long each episode can be. Take for instance the recent release of Dracula. Viewers were shocked to discover it only had three episodes and even more surprised when they discovered each episode was an hour and a half long! I’m sure they will be able to cover each athlete and coach Monica through their journey in the six episodes so there’s no reason to start worrying.

Athletes From All Walks Of Life

In the two minute trailer, we meet several of the cheerleaders who will star in the docuseries. Each with their own background, story, and life. We will learn about each of them and what makes them want to win the coveted National Championship. From a young woman who is sure she’d be in jail if it were not for this opportunity, to a young man whose own family wouldn’t even accept him, the docuseries will be very eye-opening.

Notice, they are athletes. Which is a primary thing some viewers may not understand but will see in Cheer. We will see the grueling workouts, the ice baths and people on the verge of collapsing. This is where we see what people are truly made of, and what they’re capable of. Cheer releases tomorrow, so make sure you put a reminder on your phone!
