Welcome to Plathville Spoilers: Who Is Barry Plath? Is the Plath Family Rich As Croesus? What You Need To Know About the Plaths!

Welcome to Plathville Spoilers find that, last week it was noted that Papa–I mean–Barry Plath, the Dad to the Plath clan, was a travel consultant that worked out of Tallahassee. I’m guessing its not that far of a drive from where he lives in South Georgia, to where he works. Or perhaps if it is, maybe he just likes taking the long, scenic route to work every morning. That last bit wouldn’t surprise me one bit as Barry seems like the type to like a slower paced commute to work unlike the rest of us who are rushing and bustling to get someplace in the morning. Or, maybe he doesn’t have a traditional work week, maybe he only goes in a few days a week to the office and when he gets home uses that limited technology to his full advantage and does the rest of the stuff from his home office. Hey, just because it’s limited doesn’t mean it can’t be useful.

Welcome to Plathville Spoilers: Yes, but what’s the definition?

The definition of a travel consultant is almost like a travel agent, only instead of offering travel packages that are “7 days six nights for $500” they do a far more personalized approach. They use their contacts at hotels and other businesses to set up a completely customized trip. It looks like consultants do a lot of their business from actually going out and meeting their clients face to face and building a clientele with a far more old school, personal touch that we don’t really see nowadays. Simply put, ol’ Barry’s not in the business of selling travel packages, he’s in the business of giving people a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Welcome to Plathville Spoilers: Is the price any different?

While I could not find any evidence of a marked price difference between the two occupations, one could only assume that a service that offers a completely personalized experience based on the time it takes to get personally acquainted with hotel staff, travel firms, and other people in the industry, would cost considerably more than say just offering your standard vacation packages that can be booked through say, expedia.com. Just like with any customized experience, it’s going to cost more. It’d be like comparing going out to Red Lobster or Olive Garden as opposed to having your own personal chef come in and prepare you a full course meal complete with foie gras – it’s going to cost more. Probably pays enough to keep a family of a wife and nine kids very comfortable, considering they don’t have extraneous expenses like cable TV and all the latest technology to worry about.

Welcome to Plathville Spoilers: Does his job ever get in the way of such a big family?

Now therein lies the question! Does his job get in the way of his having such a big family? Or vice versa? What if Kim or the kids need him at home? Does he get to come home straight away (since, from what I’ve seen travel consultants are mostly self-run) or do they have to wait hours and hours for him to return? Can he set his own schedule or is it one of those things where any and all vacation time has to be carefully cleared through a boss or perhaps a business partner that works with him?  How did he happen upon this job anyway? The latter, maybe could be answered like this: Maybe Barry did start off as a travel agent, but he started off at a time before technology was so prevalent and a simple travel agent had to do lot of their own legwork. Perhaps he expanded that expertise into a travel consultant business of his own making. If they ever go into detail about that, I would not be surprised. To see how else Barry keeps himself busy, we’ll just have to stay tuned!!!
