‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal a huge shocker hit Port Charles when Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) became what we now call Frankendrew. ‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers indicate a similar situation has happened in Salem. They just have slightly different ways of going about it. Here’s what you need to know.
‘General Hospital’ spoilers: Frankendrew lives
Poor Franco was essentially erased from existence when he took Cameron Webber’s place in a crazy experiment. Mad Scientist Arthur Cabot (Time Winters) is sort of a reluctant participant, as he wasn’t planning experiment on a kid. He also wasn’t prepared to use Franco, but he figured his fully developed brain was the best bet when the choice was presented.
Thanks to the procedure, Franco believes he’s Drew Cain (Billy Miller). The consequences have been huge. Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) family was broken apart, Kim Nero (Tamara Braun) is obsessing over her last link to her late son, and there are families at odds over the court case that eventually went in Frankendrew’s favor.
‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers: Love live the princess?
‘Days’ had a similar setup recently. Another mad scientist, Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay) implanted something in Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) that essentially took away her essence and replaced it with Princess Gina’s. A slightly different spin, as the change isn’t based on implanting memories. Although that is next of Rolf’s list. He wants to make sure Princess Gina (Alfonso) can be convincing. However, her future is as shaky as Franco’s. Before the November 8th time jump, it looked like “Hope” might be busted for pushing Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) off a balcony. Will the princess do time? We’ll have to wait and see.
They say that there are only a finite number of stories. Everything else is a variation of these, and we’re certainly seeing that in daytime. From ‘Days’ and (GH) both dealing with brain tumors, to the Frankendrew/Princess Gina thing, to miraculous returns from the dead, there’s not much in the way of unique stories. What’s making them interesting to fans of each, as well as what sets them apart, is how the writers deal with it, as well as the characters.
While Frankendrew led to a court case questioning identity issues (and took an emotional toll on families, as well as Frankendrew), we don’t see it being the same case on Days. Princess Gina shows little sympathy for Hope being highjacked, while Frankendrew does clearly have empathy for the real Drew and both families. Princess Gina is also more about taking over the town, while Frankendrew just wants to live in peace. Will either reach their goals? We’ll have to wait and see.
