On the Call Her Daddy Podcast, Tana Mongeau finally got to explain herself a bit. Now, I’m not going to say that this makes up for the apology video because we are still waiting for that (come on Tana, let the other shoe drop already!) but she did explain a little bit about her home life and just where on earth she came from, and while it doesn’t excuse or make up for anything she’s done, it might help to explain why she did what she did. The thing is, from the way she tells it, Tana literally has no frame of reference for being a good person.
She said that she grew up in a household where, if she got sick and had to go to the doctor or the dentist, that it was her fault and she got yelled at by her parents. If she got in trouble at school, then her parents were literally the Chad and Karen type and would go fight the teachers in order to get her off.

Which, sounds good in theory but it really just makes more trouble for the teacher, and in the end, the student. There was never any instruction at home on how she could do better, so she said by the time that she was a freshman in high school she was so depressed from living this lifestyle that she just stopped going to school, so much so that they were sending out truant officers. Finally, Tana just dropped out of school.
She said her Grandma was very racist, and would say absolutely nasty things about Imari, someone who was her best friend and who literally had done nothing to her. Tana said that once she heard that come out of her Grandmother’s mouth she cut off all contact with her and has never spoken with her since.
Unfortunately, in this podcast she did not address her own microaggressions, she kind of briefly glazed over them and said that she realized in 2019 that she didn’t want to live her life the way she had been living it anymore but I think that was more of a reference to all the drugs she said she had been doing than anything.
I am glad of one thing though, Alex from the Call Her Daddy podcast did not stutter when she called her out about her apology. She said that it was the worst steaming pile of garbage that she had ever heard. She made it clear that her line of questioning was not in defense of Tana in any way and it wasn’t taken that way.
Just FYI, this article isn’t in defense of Tana either, but I found this podcast interesting in the way that it addressed things. Tana said that the apology was 100% written by her, and was the way she felt at the time which is… alarming because it sounds like she actually meant to come off that way.
However she said the apology was written and filmed on a day when she consulted no one else and that she was tired of running to people when she got in trouble. Everyone was coming up to her saying that saying something was better than saying nothing and that was where we got that trainwreck of an apology video from.
Protip to Tana: Don’t do that again without consulting someone before uploading it. I’m amazed it wasn’t removed or privated once the people in her life did see it, but that was probably a Tana decision… a bad one at that. So will we ever get to see the apology for the apology video? Stay tuned!!!
