Youtuber PewDiePie, otherwise known as Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, has been bashed for mocking deaf TikToker Scarlet May.
Youtuber PewDiePie Bashed For Mocking Deaf TikToker Scarlet May-‘If You Still Like PewDiePie Grow Tf Up’
The controversy first started when PewDiePie was watching a clip of Scarlet telling a story, as she used American Sign Language. But as soon as the video had literally begun, the Youtuber made it very clear that he was not going to put up with the content.
So much so that he had allegedly stated the following: “No, I’m not listening to this.” While that could have been explained simply due to the lack of entertainment emanating from the clip, PewDiePie’s subsequent conduct suggested something more personal.
It is claimed that he used his dog to mock the TikToker by stating they had the “same crazy nails,” as well as ridiculing Scarlet by mimicking her sign language with his dog.
It is not surprising that this generated a lot of criticism for the following reasons. First of all, PewDiePie is one of the biggest Youtubers out there. And the fact that he has such a diverse fanbase, which does include people from all walks of life, his actions did not come across very well.
Secondly, his content will naturally have drawn away viewers who had hearing issues from watching his channel, especially since he was degrading them. The fans on social media came out in droves in order to express their outrage at PewDiePie’s lack of sensitivity.
In the process of doing so, the comments towards him became very harsh indeed.
One person wrote: “Honestly if you still like pewdiepie grow tf up. Not only is he racist, he’s now apparently mocking a deaf girl on tiktok who is using sign language.”
While another person stated: “Pewdiepie mocking a deaf tiktok creator for signing in her videos simply because she has long nails…as if the dude couldn’t be any worse.”
