It has been a strange year for the WWE, as the company have needed to adapt like all major sports leagues due to the coronavirus. With huge names such as Brock Lesnar, John Cena and the Undertaker all away from the ring either for good or for the foreseeable, there have been more opportunities for a number of stars to shine.
Drew McIntyre, Keith Lee and The Fiend have had excellent years, while veterans such as Randy Orton and MVP have found a new lease of life in 2020. But, while some stars are shining, there are some that have been underused, but which superstars have fallen into this category this year?
WWE News: Bianca Belair
There was huge excitement when it was revealed that Bianca Belair would be arriving on the main roster. However, her maiden year on the main roster hasn’t been without its low points. She was instantly put in a rivalry alongside the Street Profits, and hasn’t had her time to shine as a singles competitor.
The title picture on Raw and SmackDown has been dominated by the rivalry between Bayley and Sasha Banks, but now the two stars are focusing on SmackDown, the door could be open for Belair to shine in the main event scene in the women’s division. There is no doubting that she has the tools to do just that.
WWE News: Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens began the year in a heated rivalry against Seth Rollins, but since that has been over he hasn’t moved onto anything substantial. Instead, he has been involved in building numerous rivalries, including the battle between Braun Strowman and Dabba-Kato on Raw Underground this past week.
Owens is constantly one of the most underused stars as he should regularly be in the main event scene as there are few better in the ring and on the mic. There are signs that this could be changing however, as he is currently engaging in a budding rivalry against Aleister Black.
WWE News: Mustafa Ali
There had been high hopes among WWE fans that 2020 was finally going to be the year that the WWE pushed Mustafa Ali to the moon. It was widely rumoured that Ali was going to come back with the hacker gimmick that was teased on SmackDown, but that eventually petered out.
He finally made his return to television in July, but the trade to Raw hasn’t exactly worked as he has been used sparingly. Fans will be hoping that this will change at some point between now and January.
