Jeff Hardy revealed on SmackDown last week that the undisputed Intercontinental Champion will be decided at the upcoming Clash of Champions in a ladder match. There aren’t many stipulations that get fans on the edge of their seat more so than a ladder match, as they are constantly one of the most entertaining matches.
Some superstars have made this match a personal highlight reel for their finest moments, with Jeff Hardy being one of the standout contenders for Mr Ladder Match. But, is Hardy really the king of the ladder match? Or does another superstar boast a more impressive record?
WWE News: Hardy’s Ladder Match Record
No WWE superstar has been involved in more ladder matches throughout their career than Hardy. He has been involved in 12 ladder matches during his career, with these matches coming in a variety of different forms. Hardy has been involved in ladder matches in singles competition, tag-team competition and has been involved in these matches for various titles.
Of the 12 matches that he has been involved in, he has won on seven occasions. That is the most matches won by a superstar in this match. The high-flying superstar is rightly regarded as the king of this match type, as he often gives fans moments in these matches that other superstars can only dream of. Choosing a ladder match for the upcoming title defence is the logical move, as Hardy’s record is second to none.
WWE News: Other Superstars With Impressive Records
Of course, Hardy isn’t the only superstar that has excelled in these matches. Two notable names that spring to mind are Edge and Christian, who were involved in a tag-team ladder match against Hardy.
Christian’s record isn’t the best in the match, as he has lost three more times than he has won. However, the best moment of his career came in a ladder match, as he beat Alberto Del Rio to win the Heavyweight Championship in 2011 in a ladder match.
Edge has been involved in six matches of this type, and he has won three times and lost three times. His final ladder match came against Hardy in 2009. Rob Van Dam has an impressive record in ladder matches as he has won five from six. Meanwhile, Triple H and Chris Jericho are the only superstars to have competed in ladder matches and boast an unbeaten record, as he is 3-0.
