WWE fans were shocked on Wednesday night as a familiar face made his long-awaited debut on a rival show. While it would come as a shock to see the former WWE star on another show, it wasn’t that surprising given the fact that he was released by the WWE at the beginning of lockdown.
Rusev was one of the notable names that was released by the company as part of cuts, with the decision immediately not going down well with fans, who believed that he still had more to give for the company. However, as alluded to in his opening promo on his new show, Rusev was finished trying to break the glass ceiling.
WWE News: Rusev Debuts In AEW
Rusev’s future had been something that has been spoken about for a number of months now, with a number of suitors looking poised to make their move for the talented superstar. It was reported that NJPW were interested in signing him, while Impact Wrestling may have also enquired.
However, he arrived in AEW during last night’s televised show under his new name of Miro, and he immediately started firing shots at the WWE.
He is the latest in a growing number of names that have turned to AEW after leaving the WWE, with former superstars with the WWE such as Zach Ryder, Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose all calling AEW their home now. Miro was introduced on television to play the best man of Kip Sabian for his upcoming wedding to Penelope Ford.
WWE News: Miro’s Time To Shine
Fans of the WWE will be aware of the talent that the superstar has, as they were crying out for the higher ups at the WWE to give Rusev a chance at numerous points during his career. There were two points during his ten-year stay with the WWE that a title opportunity looked to be on the horizon.
The first of which was against John Cena at WrestleMania, before Cena beat him, and then again during the Rusev Day period, before the WWE pushed the breaks on the push.
Miro alluded to the ten years that he spent at the WWE during his segment, before revealing that he is now ‘All Elite’. It will be fascinating to see what happens with Miro next given that he will likely have a greater deal of creative control than he did with WWE.
