WWE fans were getting excited on social media this week as The Rock teased one final match in WWE. The Great One was quizzed about the opportunity of facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, to which The Rock replied that it would be something that he would be ‘honoured’ to do.

The Rock being open to the idea would suggest that plans could already be in place to make the dream match happen. There is no star hotter at present than Reigns, and pitting him against The Rock would immediately gain mainstream appeal. But, could it actually happen?

WWE News: External Factors Could Impact

While The Rock may be willing to work one final match with the WWE against Reigns, it is worth noting that there are a number of external factors that could have a huge impact on whether it is booked. The most obvious at this time is the impact of coronavirus.

It is incredibly unlikely that we will see The Rock vs Roman Reigns in a match behind closed doors, which means if the same restrictions are in place next year, then the WWE may opt to hold fire on pencilling in the match.

The match would be one of the biggest ever, which means doing it without fans in attendance would make little sense. Also, The Rock’s acting schedule will need to be taken into account, which could be another issue that the WWE will need to work around.

WWE News: Rock Coming Out Of Retirement Again

While the Rock teased the match against Reigns, it is worth remembering that he is still retired from the ring. The Rock revealed after his match against John Cena in 2013 that he would not be returning to the company as an active superstar.

However, doubts have now been cast over whether that retirement is legit, as the Rock’s openness to work with Reigns seemed sincere. The Rock knows the business better than most, which means that he will find it hard to turn down a bout that he knows is money, while it would also push Reigns to the next level in the process.

Only time will tell whether we will be able to see this bout at next year’s event, but The Rock has certainly left the door wide open for the company to communicate with him about the possibility of doing it.
