English football supporters who had been expecting to have a good time at a beach in Qatar with a great reputation were let down when they found out that the public swimming area was actually a building site.

After researching online and finding a four-star Google review that showcased pictures of the clear blue waters and some amazing views of Doha, Qatar’s main coastal city, the group decided to visit a public beach there.

Upon reaching their holiday destination, the visitors were taken aback by what seemed to be a setting from a horror movie – with uncompleted building projects, tents being used as dwellings for labourers and trash strewn everywhere.

The misadventure of the excitable explorers can serve as a lesson for all voyagers. Had they examined the up-to-date reviews, they would have noticed other frustrated beach-goers cautioning that the area was in the midst of undergoing development.

John, one happened to be one of the travellers, had this to say: “This is apparently Public Beach Doha. It’s a construction site with some tents on it. It’s obviously like a tourist village that they didn’t complete in time,” while the other visitor remarked: “Waste everywhere. Four-star rating on Google. Lots of reviews said it’s a great beach.”

John admitted that his group had not taken the time to read the Google reviews of the beach, even though it had a good reputation on the internet. He suggested that he would look more thoroughly into the reviews before heading to the beach in the future.

This will certainly serve as an example for the travellers that they need to do more diligence when it comes to traveling in another country. Aside from the laws in Qatar which have become a major talking point in the country, its infrastructure projects have now been shown in the same way.
