An award was presented to a courageous individual who intervened when a sexual offender attempted to attack a young girl.

This woman intervened by tackling the assailant and throwing stones at him. At Sapphire Cars, a taxi firm in Kent, Teresa Locke noticed Oluwaseun Oseni come up to a 16-year-old girl who had been waiting for a taxi after an evening out with her friends, and grabbed her around the midsection.

It was claimed that Oseni, aged 33, seized his victim around the neck before pushing her into some shutters and brutally pushing her face down to the floor. He then allegedly took steps to put her in a headlock and have sex with her from behind.

The court heard that her frantic cries for assistance caught Locke’s attention, who then attempted to separate Oseni from the victim by tugging his hair. Nevertheless, he retaliated by striking Locke in the face, shattering her glasses and leaving her with a shiner.

The defendant then took the victim to a car park and sexually assaulted her. Despite the danger, Locke did not hesitate to put her safety at risk by hurling rocks from the road at the attacker.

Later, accompanied by a security guard, she went back to the scene and together they managed to drag the assailant away from the girl. He was then arrested and given 3 years in prison.

At a National Police Chief’s Council Police Public Bravery Awards event held in Sheffield, Locke was acknowledged for her courageous deeds. The response on social media was full of praise. And in the process, people commended the courage Locke had shown. One person wrote: “A very courageous lady.”

Locke had shown a lot of bravery in doing this, as who knows what could have happened to her on any other given day. And that is why she was rightly acknowledged for her bravery.
