When it comes to celebrities and their marriages, we always want them to work. One of the marriages that has been a topic of conversation for years is that of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Will started to speak out about their marriage and he said that he and his wife have both had affairs.
Will wanted to share more with his fans and told them, “Jada never believed in conventional marriage… Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up. There were significant endless discussion about, what is relational perfection?” Jada and Will were married in 1997 and their marriage has been less than normal.
Will Smith Opens Up About Marriage
He went on to say, “What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as relational perfection. We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison.”
He continued, “And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody. But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”
When Will wrote his memoir, he did write about their marriage and how sometimes, it was very rocky. It seems that there have been times that they thought it wouldn’t last. He pointed out that very early on in their marriage, they decided to buy a 256-acre compound.
“Nothing good comes from spending your hard-earned money on a ‘family home’ that your wife doesn’t want. You are putting a down payment on discord and for years, you will be paying off a mortgage of misery. Or, worse.”
Will and Jada have taken breaks from their marriage to have relationships with others and it seems as if these breaks have truly worked to keep them together and bring them much closer together.
They have both talked publicly about what they have been through and no matter what has happened, they are still together after so many years. We hope that these affairs are just part of the healing process for them and it looks as if they both needed them at the time to keep things going.
