Netflix’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ season three is right around the corner and the big news of the year has been the transition that Elliot Page has gone through. My question lies in the fact that he will be portraying a woman on the show… Yes, this is a delicate conversation and one that feels like walking on eggshells, but I have questions!

Now, I understand that at the time of the casting, Elliot Page was Ellen Page, and cast as the character Vanya in the show. Vanya is a woman and was portrayed and played as such throughout the first two seasons. Now with the third season around the corner, and Elliot being Elliot, how will this affect the series and Vanya as a character? If at all…

Will Elliot Page’s Still Play the Female Character Vanya On Netflix’s ‘Umbrella Academy’ Season Three & Beyond?

Will the series do some convoluted plot to turn everything around, making Vanya a man from here on out, or will Elliot continue just playing a woman on the series? I can already feel some of you scowling, but it’s an honest question. Interestingly enough, the standard lately has been Russians portraying Russians, gay actors portraying gay characters, etc, and when people get outside these standards, people rage and throw fits online forcing many actors to step out of roles.

Oddly enough, there doesn’t seem to be much outrage here as a man will now be portraying a woman. It’s an interesting concept. Personally, I could care less as long as they don’t change the CHARACTER or the SHOW to bend it around creating Vanya into a man. The character is the character and I stand by that.

Reports have confirmed that Page will indeed continue to play Vanya, so I have the honest question, will they change everything or will Page continue to play the female character without issue?

Looking around, I’ve found numerous reports on Page and his excitement to continue in the role now that they feel like themselves, but nothing about the character or the series. As long as they don’t change the character, I’m fine with it, but what’s your opinion?
