It looks like there was perhaps more drama going on behind the scenes than in front of the cameras before, during, and after the filming of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reality docuseries Harry and Meghan.

In fact, there’s some speculation that the docuseries almost didn’t air as Netflix supposedly wanted to pull the plug on the project altogether. Here’s what you need to know.

Why Did Netflix Almost Pull Plug Out Of Harry And Meghan Show?

The new Netflix documentary series about Britain’s Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle had been billed by the streaming service as a “global event” which will attract a worldwide audience. That audience no doubt includes several interested viewers within the royal family keen to see the portrayal of ‘The Firm’, as the family is often called.

During the first three episodes, Harry and Meghan touches on some of the racism that Meghan had endured from the British press and Britain’s colonist past. The prince also touches on Diana’s BBC Panorama interview in 1995, saying, “I think she had a lived experience of how she was struggling, living that life. She felt compelled to talk about it.”

Prince Harry added that the media’s hounding fell onto him and Prince William, which opened his eyes even more to the public scrutiny that came with being a royal family member. “So much of what Meghan is, and how she is, is so similar to my mom,” Harry says, while clips show him and his mother, followed by pictures of his wife and son.

Harry then reiterates that while he knows “there will be people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I’ve done and how I’ve done it,” he knew he “had to do everything I could to protect my family.”

And while Harry and Meghan insist that they are telling their side of the story, there’s some speculation that Netflix wanted to scrap their project altogether just because it’s taken this long for them to produce any content.

That, and there was also a chance that the docuseries would bomb for failing to provide any context or proof of the allegations they’ve made against the British press, the racism that Meghan had endured and all of the things they’ve said about the royal family.
