He might or might not be planning a comeback. And if he were, it seems like there aren’t a lot of people who would expect to be very forgiving of him, either. Of course, we are talking about Queen Elizabeth’s favorite son, Prince Andrew.
Now that he’s settled out of court for a reported $16 million with his sexual abuse accuser Virginia Giuffre, a lot of people can’t help but wonder what’s next for the Duke of York. Here’s what you need to know.
What’s In Store For Prince Andrew’s Future Now That He’s Settled With Virginia Giuffre?
Giuffre has claimed she was trafficked by convicted sex offender Epstein and others to Andrew, who is alleged to have sexually abused her when she was 17, a minor under US law. She also alleged the royal forced her to engage in sex acts against her will at Epstein’s mansion on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
And now it’s being reported that the sum of the settlement has not been disclosed but the duke will make a “substantial donation” to Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. The Duke has also pledged to “demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein” by supporting the “fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.” However, reps for the duke declined to comment on the source of funds for the donation.
Of course, it didn’t take long at all for royal fans and critics alike to weigh in on the matter on social media. A lot of people are quite surprised that Virginia agreed to settle for an undisclosed sum only a few weeks before Prince Andrew was supposed to be deposed by her lawyer.
Many critics took to their Twitter accounts to write, “Why is she settling for money, this reminds me of the Micheal Jackson case, the minute they settled for money nobody believed them,” along with, “If this brings her peace, I wish her well. Selfishly, I wish names were revealed and powerful people held accountable for their actions.”
Another critic wrote, “It’s a perfect example of the world we live in that a rich man can buy off his accuser. Money puts you above the law. Justice is secondary to cash.”
