Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter, Charlotte, will inherit many wonderful jewels and baubles from Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth.
The royal family’s assortment of precious jewels is legendary. The royals have passed these pieces down for generations.
The Spencer Tiara
Not only will she inherit timeless and celebrated jewelry items like exquisite earrings and dazzling rings, but there are a few very special pieces in particular that Charlotte will inherit one day.
Princess Charlotte will receive the Spencer tiara, which Princess Diana wore in her 1981 wedding to (then) Prince Charles.
Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, is currently looking after the coveted storybook piece. A royal source says that William and his uncle agreed that they should give Diana’s first granddaughter the tiara.
Charlotte is reportedly “giddy with excitement” over inheriting the tiara. She will likely wear it to her wedding. The family heirloom was thought to have been made in 1767.
Lady Sarah Spencer gifted the piece to Princess Diana’s grandmother in 1919. She added further embellishments to create today’s even more beautiful piece.
In the mid-1970s, Princess Diana’s father, John Spencer, inherited the piece, which he gave to Diana when she wed Charles.
The Spencer tiara is a garland-adorned piece that is heart-shaped and set with diamonds.
The Vladimir Tiara
In addition to the Spencer tiara, Charlotte will also inherit Queen Elizabeth’s Vladimir tiara. The jewelers of the time made the piece in 1874.
The first owner of the tiara, the Grand Duchess Vladimir, smuggled it out of Russia during the revolution of 1917. Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother, Queen Mary, purchased the tiara at an auction in 1921.
The tiara was damaged at the time of purchase, and the Queen had it repaired. Three years later, she had it worked on again and had some of her jewels from her personal collection used to make the tiara complete and perfect.
Queen Mary had the piece adapted so that she could wear it with the Cambridge’s gorgeous, sparkling green emeralds adorned on the piece, along with other gems that had belonged to the Queen Mary’s mother.
Queen Mary died in 1953, and her daughter, Queen Elizabeth, inherited the tiara. Elizabeth made further adaptions to the piece so she could wear it with diamonds.
In the 1970s, Elizabeth had the small tiara made bigger to create the diamond and aquamarine setting we see today.
The Cambridge’s Lover’s Knot Tiara
As the Cambridge Princess, Charlotte will inherit Queen Mary’s Cambridge’s Lover’s Knot tiara, first made in 1818 and redesigned in 1913. Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel was gifted the tiara at her wedding.
After her death, the tiara was inherited by her oldest daughter. She passed away in 1916, and her granddaughter inherited it. Her cousin was Queen Mary, who had her own copy of the piece made.
Lover’s Knot bows are part of its design, which repeats throughout the length of the tiara and is adorned with diamonds. All these tiaras will one day go to Charlotte.
William and Kate Middleton’s little girl is fortunate and well aware that she is a Princess. Charlotte is already practicing by wearing fake plastic tiaras and playing dress-up with gowns. It is super adorable and very regal of her.
