Beauty influencer Mikayla Nogueira recently did a review for L’Oréal telescopic mascara that everyone feels is fraudulent. Even Ardell, a false eyelash company, came out and shaded her, saying that it’s clear to them that Mikayla had help from their product, the Ardell wispies.

Jeffree Star and James Charles both shaded Mikayla, and Jeffree Star was prompted to get back in the makeup reviewing game. He made a video on TikTok saying that recently a lot of the beauty products that have been reviewed by beauty influencers on TikTok have been fraudulent. And that while he has reviewed products in the past he has never “accepted coin” for any of it.

In No Uncertain Terms, He Told Us, “The Bitch Is Back”

Mikayla’s review looked authentic enough, but no makeup product makes lashes that long without some help from some kind of false lashes. It’s just not scientifically possible. Award winning makeup artist Kevin James Bennet even came out and said that all mascara ads use false lashes, but that the big makeup companies always have to disclose the fact that they’re using false lashes to get the desired effect in their ads, but they have disclose in fine print that they are indeed using false lashes or they will get fined for false advertising.

The thing is, if she did indeed use false lashes, what she did is illegal. She was paid for this review and if the ad gets flagged by the FTC she could very well get fined for false advertising.

Jeffree Star has said that there is nothing wrong with taking sponsorships but he also says that he makes his own coin and doesn’t need the sponsorships so when he reviews something it’s going to be completely honest. He didn’t say he was going back to YouTube but he did assure everyone that now that influencers are lying that he’s never going away and is going to restart his “Jeffree Star Approved” reviews, and this product got approved.

James Charles came out  and reviewed the product as well, saying that he was initially pretty skeptical about the product but that after he reviewed it he wished he was getting paid to review the product. He did give it an approved review. Beauty influencer Robbie DiChristie said that other influencers had a responsibility to be honest about products and that people also had a responsibility to call it out. “You have to let it be what it is.” Indeed. Stay tuned!!!
