King Charles may abdicate the throne in a few years so William and Kate can lead the younger generation. Denmark’s Queen Margrethe’s decision to abdicate her throne is going beautifully.
King Charles Could Follow in Queen Margrethe’s Footsteps
On New Year’s Eve,
The surgery prompted her to give her future careful consideration. She knew it was time to give the crown to her Frederik. No Danish monarch has voluntarily left the throne since King Erik III Lam in 1146.
So, this abdication makes history. King Charles may follow her example and give the throne to his oldest son.
Royal experts believe that Margrethe made this move to solidify the royal family’s future since there have been rumors that Prince Frederik had an affair.
She wants her son and his wife to be King and Queen. Mary is too special to the royal family and wants them to serve the people together. She also doesn’t want the monarchy to appear out of date.
King Charles may consider stepping aside to allow William to lead the people. William is bright and has the energy to take the kingdom into a new era.
Royal expert Phil Dampier says that King Charles may see what Queen Margrethe did with her country, which may inspire him to do the same.
King Charles is Not Beloved the Way Queen Elizabeth Was
Dampier said, “It must make you wonder if in five- or- ten -years -time, King Charles might think about doing the same thing if his health suffers or if he thinks it’s just a good time to pass onto William and Kate while they are still young.”
King Charles is also not beloved like his mother, Queen Elizabeth, was, and he likely knows that. The Queen was admired even by those who were not exactly pro-monarchy.
There is an ongoing debate in certain circles about whether Charles should give the crown to William. Charles seems a bit arrogant and unappreciative. Many people would like to see William in his position.
William seems to have a kinder, more caring personality. He’s also more relatable to the Brits. He goes to rugby and football seems more like a regular guy.
Charles may not even appreciate the position he has. King Charles could retire at some point before he dies.
Whatever the case, it is clear that even though Charles and Camilla are respected, they are not loved like William and Kate.
Charles also has a vision of a slimmed-down monarchy, which isn’t always efficient. William picks up a lot of the royal duties. He goes on those overseas trips that Charles is starting to skip.
If Charles lived to the same age as Queen Elizabeth, it would be 23 years until William took the reins and became King.
King Charles’s reign seemed to be a transitionary period until his son, the Prince of Wales, and his wife, Princess Catherine, took the helm.
