Following the news of Tyler Christopher’s death rumors flew all over the place as to what caused his cardiac event, and ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers was curious about what may have caused it.
There are many possible factors given his history of alcohol abuse, but first we wanted to look into what a cardiac event is.
While the first thing that comes to mind is a heart attack, but the two aren’t interchangeable, though a heart attack can follow a cardiac event, which also includes a possible blood clot in the heart or lungs and irregular heartbeats and can be treated in time before severe damage is done.

In the more extreme conditions, a cardiac event is one where the heart malfunctions and stops beating, while a heart attack is the event where blood can’t get to the heart.
This fits with Christopher’s history as an alcoholic as he’s had problems before.
When he appeared on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast, he said that he flatlined three times while drinking, meaning he may have had cardiac events each time:
“Nobody knows that Three times I have flatlined, and they brought me back. Twice from poisoning, once from withdrawal.”

It’s said that no one’s luck lasts forever, and it’s possible his finally ran out as his body finally broke down. As laid out by Silver Pines Treatment Center, alcohol can cause a myriad of problems, including when one is dealing with withdraw symptoms.
But it varies from person to person, but once any damage is done to our hearts it can’t heal and could lead to further complications.
Christopher tried numerous times to get clean, and during a period of withdraw in 2019, he was placed under the guardianship of his sister, Susa Asmo Baker.
It was reported then that he’d fallen and hit his head and had to undergo life saving surgery to stop the bleeding.
In May of this year, he was arrested at the Hollywood Burbank Airport for public intoxication as he continued his battle with his addiction.
In the end, it seems like Christopher was fighting an uphill battle and his alcoholism is most likely responsible for the cardiac event that led to his death, but that’s nothing more than speculation.
It’s never easy losing someone whether they’re our favorite actor, a friend, or a family members, and our hearts go out to everyone he touched throughout his life.
